Join the Civil War Food Battle!

We can End Hunger One TEXT at a Time.
Hunger doesn’t choose sides, but we can in the fight against it! The “Civil War Food
Battle” is a contest between “Duck” fans and “Beaver” fans to see who can generate the most
donations for local food banks. Through a unique partnership with the Oregon Food Bank
Network, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State University, we can battle hunger together –
Civil War style!
“We are teaming up to create a mobile text drive that will reach participants state-wide
and encourage football fans to text a $5.00 or $10.00 donation to help feed our hungry
neighbors,” says Darrel Kau, FOOD For Lane County Development Director. “With the sobering
truth that Oregon is the second hungriest state in the nation, the opportunity to rally together
around the Civil War Game to raise money for all 20 food banks in the state is fantastic.”
Earlier this year, Americans used their cell phones to send text messages pledging more
than $30 million for Haiti Disaster relief efforts, according to Mobile Giving Foundation. Excited
about using that model to raise funds for hunger relief, FOOD For Lane County applied to MGF
to establish the four (4) keywords being used for the “Civil War Food Battle” text campaign.
Texting GoDucks5 or GoBeavs5 to 20222 will result in a $5.00 donation. Texting GoDucks10
or GoBeavs10 to 20222 will give a $10.00 donation.
Oregon has been hit especially hard by this recession. With Ducks and Beavers all over
the state, this fundraising drive will benefit the entire food bank network, from Astoria to
Ontario, providing financial help to all twenty regional food banks in the Oregon Food Bank
Network, including NeighborImpact.
The one-time donation of $5 or $10 will be added to your mobile phone bill or deducted
from your prepaid balance. Messaging & Data Rates May Apply. All charges are billed by and
payable to your mobile service provider. Service is available on most carriers. Donations are
collected for the benefit of the food bank by the Mobile Giving Foundation and subject to the
terms found at www.hmgf.org/t.
